——
background
Within my marketing cohort, I created a team to ideate a digital product and then determine the product’s viability via market research. I was surprised that outside of Google, there wasn’t a mainstream, searchable inventory of available entertainment titles across streaming services. The idea for Sift was born.

How do you build out a viable entertainment-filtering product using quantitative research tools?
——
solution
A mobile application—with features and demand informed by data—that goes above and beyond current offerings in filtering your entertainment options.
——
process
Using quantitative research tools including an exploratory survey, an explanatory survey, and a conjoint analysis, we determined demand for our product idea.
We then separated the market into three individual clusters.

our features & aesthetic.
feature 1
subscription management
Users can cancel, sign up, or top-up their subscriptions to all streaming services. This feature enables search results to populate which titles are free (included with their subscriptions) and which require a fee.
feature 2
date tags
Search results also indicate the expected expiration or entry date of titles on specific streaming platforms—allowing users to prioritize their entertainment choices.
feature 3
watchlists
Users can create, share, and upvote watchlists—playlists of their favorite hand-picked titles— with other users and friends or enjoy readily available expert-curated watchlists.

With the addition of a competitive analysis, we compiled the data and pitched our idea to one of our professors—ultimately determining Sift a viable product and offering recommendations on next steps.
lessons.
01• It’s possible to bring ideas to life
This concept was one I’d had in the back of my mind for some time. With the graciousness of my team coming along for the journey, being able to put data to it and begin the initial steps was so much fun and empowering.
02• Quantitative analysis is key to understanding & viability
Quantitative analysis plays a crucial role in confirming or invalidating insights and assumptions that inform the design. Our data helped us make pivots we otherwise wouldn’t have.
